Speakers:
Natasha Thomas-North, the Growing Center Manager of Taylor Creek Restoration Nurseries in Baldwin, Kansas, will be presenting on operating an ecologically driven nursery at a large scale. Taylor Creek has five nurseries, one hundred employees, and projects in 38 states. Dedicated to locally sourced seed genotypes, their work sets the standard for large scale restoration nursery production nationwide.
Elia Woods, the owner and operator of Lia’s Garden in Oklahoma City, will be
presenting on climate-friendly greenhouse design. Elia will describe the three alternative approaches to greenhouse heating systems that she has used in her nursery business. Compost, climate batteries and thermal mass are all effective methods of heating without using fossil fuels. Combined with thoughtful greenhouse design, they offer accessible ways to heat a greenhouse for small to large growers. Elia will also show the DIY germination chambers that she has built and give pointers on how to build your own.
Bill Farris, ONPN co-founder and owner of Prairie Wind Nursery, will be presenting on seed stratification strategies and overcoming difficult vernalization barriers.
Cedric Leblanc, the owner and operator of Sanctuary Gardens, will be presenting on
propagation methods using soft tissue, hardwood cuttings, divisions, when to clone and why.
Susan Chambers, ONPN co-founder and owner of Rose Rock Landscape and Design,
will be presenting on native grass germination trials and growing media for germination vs. regular growth.
